• i had to Take A Leave at College to GO on Active Duty in the U.S. Army. by Joining the National Guard at That Time i Avoided Being Drafted Like SO Many Other Young Men. i Attended Basic and Specialist Training for 6 Months Returned to College for Another Year but Became Involved in the Military. I Attended Army Leadership Schools and was Urged to Attend Ocs (Officers Candidate School) at Ft. Benning, GA by MY Battalion Commander. Our Unit Needed Qualified Young Officers to Lead All the New Troops That Joined the Guard. The War in Vietnam Began and i Received MY Commission as A Second Lieutenant at the Age of 19 Years. i Attempted to Return to A Normal Life and College. the Turmoil at That Time had Upset MY Life and MY Education. i Became Totally Involved in MY Career Both Civilian and Military and Never Returned to College for MY Degree. I Feel MY Military Leadership Training and Experiences were in Fact Better Then the Education i Missed by Attending College.
• Studied and Prepared for A Career in Mechanical Engineering. Took Many Courses Including Mechanical Drawing, Foundry, Metal Working Shop, Calculus, Strength of Materials and Many Others That was to Prepare ME for Engineering College. Unfortunately, i Entered the Military During the Vietnam War and Graduated Ocs in Ft. Benning, GA with A Commission in the U.S. Army National Guard.
