• at the Time That i Went to Duke University, i was Already Well on MY Way in Terms of MY Career as A Creative Writer. More Than Anything Else, i Went to Duke to Explore MY Relationship with God. i Felt Called but Learned Later That the Calling did not Require ME to Foresake MY Talents to be A Minister, but Rather the Calling was to Work Through MY Writings to be One Voice in Many That Works Collectively to Raise the Consciousness of Humanity. I Left Duke, After Attending Part-Time (I was at the Time Also Teaching at North Carolina Central University), When MY Dad had What Turned Out to be His Final Heart Attack. Through i Never Returned to This Formal Study, the Pursuit of A Personal Relationship with God, is Yet A Life-Long Endeavor.
• i was the Protege of Owen Dodson Who was A Writing and Director in the Harlem Renaissance. i was Tutored by Him (Beyond the Classroom) not Only Throughout MY Undergraduate Experience, but After i Graduated Until HE Said, &Quot;I'Ve Taught You Everything i Know.&Quot; and Thusly Released ME to MY Own Devices. What i Found was That MY Training was Very Special. i Discovered That i could Move from Genre to Genre, and in This was A Refreshing Freedom: i could Fit the Idea Into the Form That was Most Appropriate for It. HE Also Gave ME the Ability to Structure and Plan; and at the Same Time to Allow for the Work to Move Itself. HE Enabled ME to Self Edit in A Manner That is Wonderful and to Understand the Organic Process and Life of A Work of Art.
