• One of the Most Recognized Accomplishments in the World of Wine Expertise, This is A Test That Encompasses an 8-Hour Day in Three Parts: A Blind Tasting of One White and One Red Wine; A Written Exam, Known as 'Theory;' And, A &Quot;Service&Quot; Demonstration to Include One of the Following Three Standards: the Decanting and Service of A Wine; the Proper Uncorking and Service of Champagne; Or, the Standard Service of A Red or White Wine. All of This is Conducted in the Presence of One or More 'Master Sommeliers.' This is an Extremely Difficult and Stressful Test. the Failure Rate is Often Anywhere from 40-60% and That does not Include the Fact That Many are Present to Re-Test for the Second, Third and Sometimes, Fourth Try! it should Also be Noted That All Three Portions of the Test must be Passed on the Same Day. Failure Requires That One must Return and Re-Take All Three Phases of the Test for Each and Every Subsequent Attempt.
• This is A School That is Taught and Administered by 'Master Sommelier,' Peter Neptune. at the Advanced Level, This Course Encompasses 13 Weeks of Lecture and Countless Hours of Self-Study. Differing from the Court of Master Sommeliers, the Wset Focuses in on More Than Just the Regions, Differing Varietals, and the Flavor Profiles of Various Grapes. Instead, the Wset Delves Into the Essence of &Quot;Terroir,&Quot; the Study of Soil Composition, Along with the Viticultural Aspects and not Just Vinification! All Differences Considered, the Competency Levels Between an Advanced Wset Certificate Holder and That of A Certified Sommelier are Very Similar, Save for the Fact That the Wset Test does not Incorporate A Service Component. Some of the Information Learned Does, Indeed, Over-Lap, but Each has A Different Focus. Nonetheless, This Class is not for the Hobby-Based Wine Aficionados. Countless Hours of Study are Required to Pass and One must be Very Passionate and Dedicated to Achieve This Honor!
