Our Lab Uses Genetic Mouse Models to Study the Function of Pathogenic Atxn1 Protein in an Effort to Better Understand How the Polyq Expansion Causes Neuronal Death, and What might be A Potential Therapeutic Target.
• Activities and Societies: Biology Club, Habitat for Humanityi Earned MY B.S. in Biology with Minors in Biochemistry and Neuroscience. i Took Science Courses Designed to Train Future Scientists, with Heavy Emphasis on Novel, Independent Research Projects in Neuroscience. i Focused These Projects in the Areas of Sleep Regulation, Brain Control of Reproduction, Depression, and Parkinson'S Disease. Apart from MY Course Research Projects, i Worked for 3 Years in the Lab of Dr. Greg Fraley, Studying in Balance of Reproduction and Energy Homeostasis. This Work was the Result of Many Collaborations and Resulted in Three Publications. Hope College Provided ME with A Liberal Arts Education That Taught ME to Work in Team Settings with Others That have Different Backgrounds and Professional Interests. it Also Gave ME the Well-Rounded Education That will Allow ME to Tackle A Problem from Multiple Angles.
