Beck Received Her Phd in Folklore/Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania and has Served as the President of the American Folklore Society and on the Boards of the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress and the Bureau of Folklife Programs and Cultural Studies at the Smithsonian Institution. Recently She has Published Daisy Turner'S Kin: an African American Family Saga, Published by University of Illinois Press.
