• A Restructured Math Curriculum: A Case Study In This Paper, i Explore the Idea of Restructuring Math Education SO That MY Students can be More Successful in Higher Level Mathematics Courses. i Analyze Previous Solutions Used to Reduce the Disparity in Math Achievement Between Different Populations of Students and Discuss Why These Solutions do not Work. i Then Review the Role of Standards and Explore How to Reduce the “Othering” Caused by Them. i Propose That WE Change the Way That WE Use Standards, Instead Viewing Standards as A Benchmark Rather Than Concepts That must be Mastered by A Certain Time. i Suggest That Individualized Learning could be A Technique Used to Help Students Work at Their Own Pace and Used to Reduce “Othering” That Occurs Too Often in Math Classrooms. i Then Propose A New Way the Mathematics Curriculum should be Structured Starting in Early Grades.
