• as A Motivated and Enthusiastic Student, i was Invited by Professor Daniel Fessler to Participate in His Research Lab as A Research Assistant. During MY Time in the Lab, WE Researched Under A Grant from the Department of Defense, Studying Non-Violent Risk-Taking and Formidability in the Context of Personal Strength/Cohort Strength. not Only were the Research Sessions Interesting and Edifying, i Got to Apply MY Education to Continuing MY Pursuit of Practical Applications of MY Degree, i Also Became Managing Editor of Fem Magazine, Ucla'S Feminist Newsmagazine. During MY Two Years There, i was Flown to Washington, D.C. to Participate in A College Journalism Conference (Where MY Story and Page Design was Given A Nod for Being Exemplary), Won A Prestigious Writing Award, and Helped Increase Participation and Interest in the Magazine. MY Work at Fem was Also Considered MY Thesis Work for MY Gender Studies Minor.
• Despite Being A High School, Oakland Tech had Several Advanced Education Options; i did Two. the First was Paideia, A Foundational Arc of AP English, Literature, Government, and U.S. History. Led by Two Excellent Teachers, Ms. Joe and Ms. Wolfe, WE Read College-Level Essays and Novels, Took Advanced Exams, and Left with A Firm Grasp on History and Writing. the Second was the Engineering Academy, Where Under the Direction of Mr. Merrill Students Took Three Years of Classes Such as Physics for Mechanical Engineers, Descriptive Geometry, and Engineering Principles. Students were Also Expected to Complete A Year-End Project Every Year Based on Our New Skills. These Projects were Submitted to State and County Fairs, and i Received an Award for Every Submission i Made.
