• Activities and Societies: i was Awarded an Nih Structure and Synthesis of Biological Molecules Training Grant to Support MY Research for 3 Years and was Elected Graduate Student Representative for the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics. i Also Worked as A Teacher'S Assistant for Courses in Cell Biology and Biochemistry and was A Guest Speaker at Notre Dame High School in Riverside.As A Graduate Student in the Laboratory of Dr. Rozanne Sandri-Goldin i Studied the Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1 (Hsv-1) Regulatory Protein Icp27. i Investigated the Ability of Icp27 to Recruit Components of the Cellular Mrna Export Pathway in Order to Stimulate the Nuclear Export of Viral Intronless Transcripts. Using in Situ Hybridization, Microarray Analysis, and Rna Interference i Found That the Export of the Majority of Viral Transcripts is Dependent on Icp27’S Ability to Bind Rna and Interact with the Export Receptor Protein Tap/Nxf1, and That the Export Adaptor Protein Aly/Ref was Dispensable for Bulk Viral Mrna Export. Overall MY Work Advanced Our Understanding of How Icp27 Exploits Various Components of the Cellular Mrna Export Pathway Which Resulted in Several Peer-Reviewed Publications. i Also Presented MY Work at Several International Meetings, Including Annual Herpesvirus Workshops and the Cold Spring Harbor Dynamic Organization of Nuclear Function Meeting.
