• Thesis: Conservation Ecology of Okinawa'S Endangered Plant-Roosting Bats, Murina Ryukyuana and Myotis Yanbarensis As with the Endangered Bats of Japan, Many Species are Inadequately Managed Due to Both A Lack of Ecological Information and A Lack of Public Interest. Soon After MY Rediscovery or the Yanbaru Whiskered Bat Made National News in Japan, This Species and the Ryukyu Tube-Nosed Bat i Also Study were Given Protections as Endangered Species Under Japanese Law. Using Radiotelemetry, Dna Metabarcoding, and Autonomous Acoustic Recorders, i have Uncovered the Roosting Habits, Diet, and Habitat Preferences of These Okinawan Bats. i have Published MY Results as Peer-Reviewed Research Articles and have Made Direct Species Management Recommendations for the Japanese Ministry of Environment and Local Forestry. MY Results have Led to Collaborations with Japanese Colleagues Searching for New Bat Species and Assessing Known Populations on Other Islands.
• Earning A Fulbright Scholarship Gave ME the Opportunity to Study Conservation Biology in New Zealand, the World Leader in Island Biodiversity Conservation and the Source of Many Best Practices WE Use in HawaiʻI. Concurrent with MY Coursework, i Researched the Effects of Habitat and Introduced Predator Abundance on Reintroduced Bird Distributions in the &Quot;Halo&Quot; of Zealandia Wildlife Sanctuary, the World'S First Predator-Proof Fence Project. i was Also Lucky Enough to Learn Through Volunteering with Multiple Conservation Projects Throughout the Country and Wrote the Management Plan for One of MY Favorites, the Community-Led Restoration of Waimapihi Polhill Reserve.
