• This Training Completed MY Formal Preparation to Practice General Pediatrics. During This Year, i was Asked to Serve as Chief Resident at Primary Children'S Medical Center, in Rotation with the Other Five Third-Year Residents. This was Also the Beginning of Many Years of Very Rewarding Relationships with the Sub-Specialist Physicians i would Refer to from MY Practice in Logan.
• Activities and Societies: During MY Second Year of Residency, i Worked Part-Time in the Emergency Department at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Downtown Oakland, Ca.This was an Intense and Very Rewarding Exposure to Clinical Care of Infants and Children. Experience in the Nicu, Especially, Confirmed MY Prior Impressions That There were Many Areas Needing Improved Technology. i Also Became Aware of Many Areas of Infant Physiology and Pathology That are Unique to Newborn Infants and Which are Poorly or not Addressed by the Simple Modifications of Adult Technology Available for Use.
• While Fulfilling All Required Coursework and Clinical Service, i Also Continued MY Personal Studies of Various Engineering Fields Related to Medical Technology Design and Development. it was During MY Senior Year That i Became Aware of Significant Deficiencies in the Design and Operation of Medical Ventilators Being Used with Premature Infants. This Led to MY Design for an Improved Electronic to Pneumatic Interface and Continuous Pulmonary Mechanics Monitor System That was Later Formalized in MY First Issued US Patent: 4,838,257, Ventilator. MY Clinical Training Experience Also Revealed Several Other Areas in Neonatal and Pediatric Critical Care Needing Improved Technology Solutions.
• Activities and Societies: Worked Part-Time as A Typewriter Mechanic for Byu Physical Plantmy Primary Focus During Undergraduate Studies was to Master the General Subjects That would be Needed in Medical School. i was Also Very Interested in the Issues Surrounding Medical Device R&Amp;D, with Emphasis on Better Meeting the Medical Technology Needs of Infants and Children. in This Vein, i Began MY Personal Study, and have Continued to Investigate and Attempt to Keep UP to Date With, Several Areas of Engineering and Manufacturing as They Relate to Medical Technology.
